Questions and answers
Frequently asked questions
Reaching out can come with questions. Here is what you can expect from us, who we welcome, and how you can help veterans and families feel less alone.
01 What is Freedom From 22?
Freedom From 22 is a veteran-led nonprofit established in 2018 to help prevent veteran suicide and support veterans and military families through peer connection, trusted resources, wellness opportunities, and community.
02 Who can reach out for support?
Veterans and their families are welcome to contact us, regardless of service era, discharge status, or where they live. Service members, caregivers, survivors, and people concerned about a veteran may also reach out for guidance.
03 Why is the organization called Freedom From 22?
The number 22 became a national symbol of the veteran suicide crisis after an earlier Department of Veterans Affairs report estimated that 22 veterans died by suicide each day. Newer statistics have changed, but the meaning behind our name remains the same: every life matters, and no veteran should face their hardest moments alone.
04 What kind of support do you provide?
We help veterans and families explore peer support, community activities, wellness opportunities, benefits resources, crisis navigation, housing resources, family support, and other practical assistance. Available programs and services may vary by location, eligibility, and current resources.
05 Is support available at no cost?
Freedom From 22 does not charge veterans or families for peer support or resource navigation. Some services provided by outside organizations may have their own eligibility rules or costs, and we will make that clear when sharing options.
06 Do you support veterans outside Texas?
Yes. Freedom From 22 was born in Texas and supports veterans and families nationwide. Some in-person activities may be concentrated in Texas, but we welcome requests from anywhere and work to identify appropriate resources whenever possible.
07 Is Freedom From 22 a crisis or clinical provider?
No. Freedom From 22 is not an emergency response service, medical provider, or substitute for professional mental health care. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911. For confidential veteran crisis support, call 988 and press 1, or text 838255.
08 How do I request support?
Visit our Get Help page or email mission@freedomfrom22.org. You do not need to know exactly what kind of help to request. Tell us what is happening, share only what you are comfortable providing, and we will help identify a practical next step.
09 How can I help the mission?
You can volunteer, make a donation, host a fundraiser, introduce Freedom From 22 to your community, provide professional services, or explore a business partnership. Every contribution helps strengthen connection and support for veterans and families.
10 Are donations tax-deductible?
Freedom From 22 is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Keep your donation receipt for your records and consult a tax professional if you have questions about your individual situation.
